Cecil B. DeMented
USA 2000
Regie John Waters

"Power to the people who punish bad cinema! No English remakes of foreign films! No sequels to tiresome big-budget blockbusters! From the empty seats of every good movie theater, we will rise up and take back the screen - join the revolution against mainstream films! DEATH TO THOSE WHO ARE CINEMATICALLY INCORRECT!" Guerrilla filmmaker Cecil B. Demented (Stephen Dorff) and his fanatic followers, the Sprocket Holes gang, have something to say to the world. With the charisma of Charles Manson, the style of Andy Warhol and the temperament of Otto Preminger, Cecil is still not a murdering maniac - unless you get in the way of his shot. He wants to make his first independent feature forcing Hollywood diva Honey Whitlock (Melanie Griffith) to play the lead. Nobody and nothing is going to stop him.

CECIL B. DEMENTED is a fast-paced subversive black comedy that goes to every extreme and lives to tell the tale - John Waters’ first "action movie for the Hollywood-Impaired". A tongue-in-cheek underground revenge - cum - tribute from the director of HAIRSPRAY and SERIAL MOM starring Melanie Griffith (SOMETHING WILD, ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE) and Stephen Dorff (BLADE).

“Dorff delivers all the manic edge necessary to portray the deranged punk artist willing to die for his vision, while Griffith shows herself to be a good sport, with jibes about Honey’s age, her vanity, her tantrums and demands and her position in the film industry, first defending and then renouncing it.”
Variety

“1) Have senior citizens showings and let the elderly in free but make them pay to get out.
2) Announce a fake bomb threat, evacuate the auditorium and jack up the prices of your concession stand while the patrons wait in the lobby.
3) Have the ushers draw on John Waters mustaches and then jump out from under the seats and scare the audience during the climax of the movie.”
