{{HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES}}, Rob Zombies wenig filigranes, dafür umso ehrlicheres und weitgehend missverstandenes Regiedebüt, war Streichelzoo - auch wenn die grundsätzlich humorlose FSK den spitzbübischen Humor des filmischen Streifzugs durch Zombies groteske Serienkiller-Memorabilien und Horrorsammelstücke in seinem Wohnzimmermuseum nicht so recht wahrhaben wollte.

Streichelzoo deshalb, weil es nach der Aufwärmrunde jetzt ans Eingemachte geht. War der Erstling noch Verbeugung und Hommage vor den Wonnen des Grindhouse-Kinos, hat THE DEVIL’S REJECTS jetzt die Essenz der Vorbilder (am offenkundigsten: THE HILLS HAVE EYES und I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE) verinnerlicht. Auf diesem äußerst brutalen und herzlosen Roadtrip wird nicht mehr wissend in Richtung Publikum gezwinkert. Sick bis zum Anschlag zelebriert Zombie die unangenehmen Freizeitbeschäftigungen der Familie des Killer-Clowns Captain Spaulding, während sich um den kaum weniger kranken Sheriff Wydell eine Vigilantentruppe schart, die bei ihrem Vorhaben, Gleiches mit Gleichem zu vergelten, ganz biblisch vorgeht. Was den Film nicht freundlicher macht - vielmehr treibt er uns die Farbe aus dem Gesicht, wie ein, tja, White Zombie.
