Freut euch auf eine wilde Geburtstagsparty der japanischen Art: Monsterikone Godzilla wird fünfzig Jahre alt und hat vierzehn Riesengummimonster eingeladen, die sich in den Großstädten unseres Erdballs austoben. Haben unsere gedankenlosen Waffentests und die fortschreitende Umweltverschmutzung die göttlichen Riesen zornig gemacht? Nein, diesmal sind es wieder garstige außerirdische Invasoren im coolen MATRIX-Outfit, die unsere geliebte Riesenmotte Mothra, den Flugsaurier Rodan oder den Monsterigel Angilas fernsteuern. Doch die in Japan ausgebrüteten Super-Mutanten-Soldaten der Earth-Defence-Force im Schulterschluss mit Geburtstagskind Godzilla und dessen drolligem Sohn nehmen den Kampf auf.

Die Regie bei dieser gut zwei Stunden andauernden Massenkeilerei hat übrigens der Action-Spezi Ryuhei Kitamura (VERSUS, ARAGAMI). Seine mitreißende Mischung aus X-MEN, MATRIX, INDEPENDENCE DAY und einem guten Dutzend Godzilla-Filme huldigt mit atemloser Rasanz der kurzen Aufmerksamkeitsspanne eines durch die Spielkonsole mediensozialisierten Publikums. Dabei schimmert durch Kitamura beständig der naive Fan, aufgewachsen mit all den schönen Monster-Trash-Perlen der 60er und 70er Jahre. Ein extrem unterhaltsamer Patchwork-Film mit Martial-Arts-Plastik-Superhelden und gigantischen Gummitieren, der frischen Wind ins Genre bläst.

20XX. Paris, New York, Sydney, Shanghai... More than 10 monsters appear in the world at once. The United Nations wages final wars against the monsters combining the power of all the Earth Defense Force to save mankind. However, people are panicked by the enormous power of the monsters and the forces take the defensive.

While the intense fighting continues all over the world, suddenly, an enormous flying object appears and extinguishes the monsters with a beam in a matter of seconds. And then, aliens who call themselves "Xiliens" propose a peace treaty with the Earth... Meanwhile Godzilla is sleeping calmly in Antarctic ice at that time..

The final entry in this classic series that spans fifty years, directed by new-wave action specialist Kitamura Ryuhei (VERSUS, AZUMI). After a succession of wars and nuclear tests, our planet has given birth to numerous giant beasts, and the Earth Defense Forces are responsible for protecting humanity from them. When the creatures begin attacking cities all over the world, fierce battles ensue and their sheer numbers overwhelm attempts to stop them. Suddenly a giant UFO appears and destroys the attackers with an energy beam. The craft’s pilots, an alien race called the Xillians, enter into an alliance with humankind but are actually carrying out a secret plot to turn the people of Earth into their chattel. The Earth Defense Forces finally see through the Xillians’ deception, upon which the giant monsters resume their onslaught at the behest of the aliens. As a last resort, the humans awaken the radioactive fire-breathing Godzilla who they have imprisoned beneath the Arctic ice. The giant lizard defeats the monsters one by one and ultimately turns on the Earth Defense Forces, but is stopped by the pleas of his diminutive kin Minira and the two retreat into the sea together.
