Das Schicksal von Klein-James aber ist das schlimmste von allen: Wer ihm Schmerzen bereitet, beißt ins Gras; alles im näheren Umkreis zersetzt sich, welkt dahin, verfällt. Nach einem furchtbaren Zwischenfall flieht der junge James, um fortan bloß keiner Menschenseele mehr zu begegnen. Mae-Wests Erbe ist nicht minder schrecklich. Sie ist todkrank und flüchtet von der Krebsstation, um sich der aussichtlosen Behandlung zu entziehen. Im finsteren Wald kreuzen sich die Wege des Todesboten und der Todgeweihten, die sich alsbald ineinander verlieben. Wie auch schon in DOROTHY MILLS kreiert Agnès Merlet ein fantastisches Setting, das ihre Hauptdarsteller Rachel Hurd-Wood (PETER PAN, DAS PARFÜM) und Harry Treadaway (THE DISAPPEARED) märchenhaft mit Leben – und Liebe zum Leben – erfüllen. Wenn Mae-West lächelt, geht nicht nur James’ Sonne auf.
