As a boy growing up in the eighties, the 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' film series was among my favorites. But as I grew older I became aware of the fact that it was all smoke and mirrors. There was no Freddy Krueger; no Springwoood, Ohio; no 1428 Elm Street. However, Wes Craven’s brilliant concept for a film about making a film--where a presence more evil than any actor could portray was attempting to slash into reality through 'Nightmare' mythos--made it real again. As a storyteller writer/director Wes Craven captured that something special, and gave me a subtle chill to think that maybe,just maybe, it wasn’t quite safe to get back into bed.
